From Lleida.net, we collaborate with the Great Food Collection since 2013, expanding the collaboration in this edition so that we have offered the whole team the opportunity to spend a working day to this initiative. It is the largest annual collection of non-perishable food organized by the Banc d’Aliments, from supermarkets and markets to make them reach charities and trying to raise awareness about the poverty that is seen and that “that is not seen”.
The collection will take place on December 1 and 2 in different supermarkets (Lidl, Caprabo, Plus Fresc, Mercadona …) and will be distributed to social entities throughout the province. This campaign will be carried out simultaneously in the four Bancs d’Aliments de Catalunya, as well as in the rest of Spain.
It is estimated that currently 28.6% of citizens are at risk of social exclusion, with hardly any resources to pay for basic needs, according to the survey on living conditions published by the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE). They require our solidarity and our organizational capacity not to become people on the margins of society. And with that in mind the Bancs dels Aliments launches this project, in its eighth edition.
Be a volunteer. You are needed
The Bancs d’Aliments are non-profit charities, independent of any economic, political or religious ideology; based on voluntary work, with the aim of recovering the food surplus of companies and redistributing them free of charge to people in need. The Great Recapte d’Aliments in 2016 collected 4,374,000 kg of food and benefited from the collaboration of 23,715 volunteers.
The objective 2017 is to achieve at least a similar figure of the previous editions thanks to the collaboration of donors and volunteers. One more year, Lleida.net supports this initiative as a member of the community to which it belongs to, and in recognition of the necessary work of the Banc dels Aliments.
